Bloons Tower Defense 2
More games to play
Bloons Tower Defense 2 is the second game in the long-running BTD series from Ninja Kiwi. Players place dart monkeys, tack shooters, bomb towers, and more along a winding track to stop bloons from reaching the exit. Pop enough bloons to earn cash, then spend it on new towers or upgrades before the next wave hits.
Tower Types and What They Do
BTD2 offers a solid lineup of towers for a Flash-era game. Dart monkeys are your cheapest option and work well early on. Tack shooters fire in eight directions, covering wide angles at crossroads. Bomb towers deal splash damage and are especially useful against clustered bloon groups. Ice towers freeze bloons temporarily, letting other towers catch up. Each has two upgrade tiers that increase range, attack speed, or special abilities.
| Tower | Best Against | Starting Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Dart Monkey | Single-file bloons | 200 |
| Tack Shooter | Curved track sections | 350 |
| Bomb Tower | Grouped bloons | 650 |
| Ice Tower | Fast bloon clusters | 500 |
| Super Monkey | Late game waves | 4000 |
Bloon Types and Threat Levels
Not all bloons are equal. Red bloons are the simplest and worth little. Blue, green, yellow, and black bloons move progressively faster or resist certain damage types. Lead bloons cannot be popped by darts and require bombs or other piercing attacks. Ceramic bloons take multiple hits to destroy and release multiple layers when popped. Understanding which towers counter which bloon types is the core strategy loop.
| Bloon Color | Special Property | Layers |
|---|---|---|
| Red | None | 1 |
| Blue | Faster movement | 1 |
| Yellow | Very fast | 1 |
| Black | Immune to explosions | 1 |
| Lead | Immune to darts | 2 |
| Ceramic | High health | 10 |
Maps and Difficulty Options
BTD2 includes several maps with different track layouts, ranging from simple straight paths to looping routes with multiple crossing points. Some maps give more room to place towers; others restrict building zones to narrow strips beside the track. Players can pick Easy, Medium, or Hard difficulty, which affects starting cash, lives, and how quickly later waves arrive. Harder modes demand tighter tower placement and more careful upgrade choices.
Tips for Reaching the Later Rounds
Prioritize covering the longest stretches of track with tack shooters or upgraded dart monkeys early on. Save up for at least one bomb tower before wave 10, when black and lead bloons start appearing. Choke points where the track doubles back are ideal for ice towers paired with bomb towers. Avoid spending everything on cheap towers in round one; keeping a cash reserve for emergencies pays off later.
Why BTD2 Still Gets Played
Even as a Flash game from the mid-2000s, BTD2 holds up because the core loop is clear and satisfying. Rounds are short, upgrades feel meaningful, and the escalating bloon waves give a steady sense of progress. It sits between the simplicity of the original BTD and the deeper systems introduced in BTD3 and beyond, making it a good entry point for players new to tower defense games.
