Bloons Tower Defense 4
More games to play
Bloons Tower Defense 4 is a free browser tower defense game where you build and upgrade defenses to stop waves of balloons from reaching the exit. No download needed, and it runs directly in the browser, so it works at school or at home. The game has nine tracks, three difficulty settings, and 16 unlockable tower types. Two bonus modes open up as you rank up: Sandbox at rank 26 gives you unlimited money and lives, and Apopalypse at round 31 sends bloons non-stop without a break between rounds.
What is Bloons Tower Defense 4?
BTD 4 is the fourth game in the Bloons Tower Defense series by Ninja Kiwi. You place monkey towers along or near a set path, and waves of bloons travel that path from start to finish. Each bloon you pop earns dollars you spend on new towers or upgrades. If too many bloons slip through, you lose lives. The goal is to survive all rounds without your life count hitting zero.
It started as a Flash game and remains one of the most-played entries in the series. The browser version here is free and requires no account.
Tower controls
All actions use the mouse. Click a tower icon from the panel on the right to select it, then click an open spot on the map to place it. Hovering over a placed tower shows its range circle.
| Action | How to do it |
|---|---|
| Place a tower | Click tower in panel, then click the map |
| Upgrade a tower | Click the placed tower, choose an upgrade path |
| Sell a tower | Click the tower, press the sell button |
| Start next round | Click the Play button or use fast-forward |
| Toggle fast-forward | Click the fast-forward button during a round |
Tracks and difficulty levels
BTD 4 has nine tracks that vary in path length, number of turns, and available terrain for tower placement. Longer, windier paths give towers more time to fire on each bloon. Shorter or straighter paths demand stronger towers placed early.
| Difficulty | Starting lives | Starting cash | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Easy | 200 | $650 | Learning tower placements |
| Medium | 150 | $500 | Standard play |
| Hard | 100 | $375 | Experienced players |
Unlockable modes: Sandbox and Apopalypse
Two special modes unlock through normal play. Sandbox mode opens at rank 26. In Sandbox you get unlimited money and lives, so you can test any tower combination on any track without pressure. Apopalypse unlocks at round 31. In that mode bloons never stop between rounds, meaning you have no time to plan upgrades while the track is clear. Both modes use your existing unlocked towers, so they reward players who have already spent time in the main game.
Tips for holding the line
- Place your first tower near the start of the path so it gets extra hits on every bloon.
- Dart Monkey is cheap but upgrade it early: the Piercing Dart upgrade lets one dart pop multiple bloons at once.
- Camo bloons are invisible to most towers by default. Add a Radar Scanner or upgrade a Monkey Apprentice to detect them before they slip through.
- Save a portion of your round earnings for emergencies. Selling a tower mid-round loses cash, so having reserves is safer.
- On Hard difficulty, prioritize coverage over raw damage in early rounds. A few well-placed Tack Shooters at bends in the path can outperform a single expensive tower.
